FAQ

When do tutoring sessions take place?
I am now a full-time maths tutor and so I am very flexible. The majority of sessions happen weekdays afternoon/evening or on weekend mornings. I am also available for a before school session 7am - 8am weekday mornings.

Where does tuition take place?
Sessions can take place either in-person or online via Zoom. Most in-person sessions take place at my home on Dukes Avenue in Muswell Hill (occasionally we may be interrupted by a toddler or a cat). I can travel to a student's house but travel time will have to be factored into the price of sessions.

Many students choose a blended approach with a mix of in-person and online sessions as this offers great flexibility.

Is online tutoring effective?
Yes. I screenshare my pre-planned lessons via Zoom and use a Wacom writing tablet to annotate live; I will also occasionally use a two-way interactive whiteboard. I use a document viewer for exam technique sessions and past paper practise.

Do you have DBS
Yes, I have enhanced DBS and subscribe to the annual update service. I have also completed the NSPCC 'child protection for tutors' course.

How do I pay?
You will be sent a monthly invoice on the last day of each month with my business account bank details.

What is your cancellation policy?
Sessions cancelled within 24 hours are payable in full; however, I will always do my best to rearrange the session for a different time that week if at all possible.

Do you provide primary tuition?
Although some tutors will say "maths is maths", all of my teaching experience is at secondary and I therefore choose to focus on this age group. I am however willing to consider primary students on a case-by-case basis.

Do you tutor A Level?
I'm afraid not as the vast majority of my teaching experience is in years 7 to 11.

How many maths tuition sessions should child have a week?
Most students will have either one per week and then often more in the school holidays. Year 11 students often choose to increase the number of sessions around the exam period.

Do you offer group lessons?
From the new year, I will operate Saturday mornings small-group sessions for year 11s in which I will model the completion of GCSE past papers.
